GRAMMY® Award-Winning Baritone Kenneth Overton to Release THE LIVING SPIRITUAL November 14
The American Spiritual Ensemble is proud to announce that ensemble member Kenneth Overton will release his new album, THE LIVING SPIRITUAL, on November 14, 2025. Produced by Everett McCorvey and The American Spiritual Ensemble, the album features Overton alongside acclaimed pianist Elizabeth G. Hill.
Opera lovers may already know Kenneth Overton’s energetically expressive baritone voice from his many stage performances, but THE LIVING SPIRITUAL showcases another side of his artistry—the deeply personal and intimate piano–voice duo.
The album includes 23 spirituals arranged by 23 living Black composers, each one honoring and preserving the vibrant essence of the spiritual as a genre. The synergy between Overton and Hill is extraordinary—every performance overflows with life, emotion, and faith, expressed through the purity of one human voice and one piano.
About Kenneth Overton
Kenneth Overton’s symphonious baritone voice has taken him around the world, making him one of the most sought-after opera and concert singers of his generation. He is a 2020 GRAMMY® Award winner for Best Choral Performance in the title role of Richard Danielpour’s The Passion of Yeshua with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus, conducted by JoAnn Falletta.
THE LIVING SPIRITUAL marks Overton’s fourth solo recording. His most recent albums, What Dreams We Have and A Bright Tomorrow, both debuted in the Top 10 on Billboard. He is also featured on PARMA Recordings/Navona Records releases, including The Chamber Works of Adolphus Hailstork with The Harlem Chamber Players and Thy Will Be Done by Angela Rice with The National Chorale and Metamorphosis Chamber Orchestra.
